On behalf of the freshman staff and Cougar Football, I would like to welcome you to the Ventura Cougar Football Program. My name is Tim Garcia and I am the Head Varsity Football Coach at Ventura High School.
The entire staff at Ventura is excited to begin the building process with our new incoming ninth graders. Our goal as a program is to introduce our freshman on how to be a “Cougar” and what it takes to succeed on our campus as a student athlete. As the head coach, one of my goals is to work hard for our student athletes who have the ability and the desire to move on to the next level by promoting our kids to college recruiters. Without leaving any kids behind, all our student athletes will be coached and mentored by experienced teachers and coaches that care about your kids future. They will learn what it means to be the “uncommon” and why that will play a significant factor in their positive development as a young adult. It is the “uncommon” that learn how to manage their time, strive to excel in the class room, on the field, and become leaders on campus.
I’m very excited to offer a great coaching staff to our freshman football players. Co-Head Coaches Brad Steward and Felix Cortez bring years of coaching experience to our VHS frosh team. Coach Steward is a math teacher and former head football coach at VHS. Coach Cortez is a VHS alumni, coach and Ventura High employee. Both coaches will have direct contact with your student athlete throughout the school day to help guide and mentor them along the way. We will also have alumni coaches to work along side Steward and Cortez to help the fine tuning of your athletes football skills.
For Ventura Football to be successful, we must have full commitment from its players and parents. This is a major time commitment that must be met in order for our program to achieve high levels of success. All practices, meetings and football functions are mandatory. Parents, please keep in mind, this commitment is not just asked of the players, we also need the parents to help with getting your child on time to and from functions. Our football parents are also encouraged to help with our booster organization.
We look forward to meeting with players and parents at our MANDATORY informational and sign up meeting Monday, June 4th at 7:00pm in the VHS cafeteria. If a schedule conflict keeps you from attending the meeting and sign ups, please email, call or text me so we can make adjustments that will allow your athlete to not miss the window of opportunity to play football their freshman year.
